Advent Lessons & Carols

The long-standing Christ Church Bronxville traditional service of Lessons and Carols for Advent will take place on Sunday, December 4th This service of Advent Lessons and Carols was created at St. John’s College, Cambridge to usher in the holy season of Advent. During this time we prepare for the birth of that babe lying in a manger in Bethlehem, and we prepare for Christ’s second coming to bring us to fulfillment. As such, this liturgy of prayer, scripture, hymns and carols is focused on the development of the loving purposes of God which lead us to the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have not yet arrived at Christmas, but we eagerly anticipate it.

Fauré’s Requiem and Reception

On Sunday, November 7th at 5:00pm, the choir and clergy will offer a requiem mass for All Saints and All Souls’ Day; the musical setting will be that of Gabriel Fauré. The service will be followed by a reception hosted by the Men’s Group. All are welcome.

During the service, it is a tradition to read aloud the names of those who have died. As such, we are gathering names of all those lost since All Saint’s Day 2019 (November 1st 2019.) If you would like to add a name to the necrology, you can either fill out the online form here or add their name to the physical list located in the narthex. We kindly ask that you submit your names by Thursday, November 4th.

Service for All Hallow’s Eve

All Hallows’ Eve, or Halloween, precedes the Church’s celebration of All Saints’ Day. Early Christians kept the practice of remembering the martyrs on the day of their death. Later, Christians began remembering all the saints on November 1st. Our youth-led service, with a liturgy from The Episcopal Church’s Book of Occasional Services, will have readings from Holy Scripture, Taizé chants, hymns, and prayers for the saints and our dearly departed. During the service, the pipes of our organ will blare the spooky sounds of Bach's famous Toccata in D minor. Halloween costumes are optional! We hope you will join us!

Confirmation Sunday

Confirmation Sunday

On Sunday, September 12th at 10:00am the Rt. Rev. Mary Glasspool, Assistant Bishop for the Diocese of New York, will visit Christ Church for a parish visitation, and to confirm two classes of young people who have been preparing since the fall of 2018 for Confirmation!

We will also call upon Bishop Glasspool to receive adults who have already been confirmed in another Christian tradition and would like to affirm their membership in the Episcopal Church. This is also a moment for adults whose faith practice has waned, or changed, to make a public re-affirmation of faith if they choose.

If you are an adult who has not been confirmed but would like to explore that possibility, please contact one of the clergy; likewise, if you would like to be received into the Episcopal church, or publicly re-affirm your faith, we are happy to speak with you!
