Collection for St. James Church, Fordham

Upcoming Food Drives:

Every 1st Sunday of the month

Items Collected:

  • 14-16 oz. cans of any fruit, corn, peas, black beans, or pinto beans

  • 6-8 oz. cans of protein (i.e., tuna or Vienna Sausages)

  • 1 lb. packages of rice or pasta

  • 7 oz. packages of boxed Macaroni and Cheese

  • Low-sugar or no-sugar oatmeal packages

  • Quart sized, shelf-stable milk (non-refrigerated)

While we are very grateful for all the Special K, Cheerios, and healthy cereals that folks have generously provided, St. James no longer wants donations of boxed cereals. Cereal boxes take up a lot of room in the brown paper bags, used for grocery distribution, and often cause rips and tears.

About St. James Food Alliance:

The Parish of St. James, led by Father Matt Oprendek, began the food pantry in October 2017 when a woman came in asking for help feeding her family. The food pantry then opened its doors and has continued on the second Saturday of every month. The pantry provides fresh vegetables and fruits along with non-perishable groceries to about 375-400 families a month. When the pandemic forced the food pantry to close, Episcopal Charities began distributing bags of groceries outdoors at St James in order to continue to help with the food insecurity of the neighborhood.

Any questions about the St. James collection can be directed to the parish administrator at christchurch@ccbny.org.
